Drillbit Taylor

April 1st 2008 07:40
This is one of my favourite Owen Wilson's film. I thought it would not be that good, but to my surprise this movie is refreshingly entertaining and funny. It kinda reminds me of Superbad movie, as the central charactes revolves aroud the lives of three young teenager boys played by Troy Gentle, Nate Hartlley and David Dorfman, trying to fit in and surviving their first days in highschool. Then came the typical bully, good looking kind of school bully, played by Alex Frost, who turned these three kids' life into hell.
Fed up of being the centre of the jokes in the entire school, they came up with an idea to find some sort of adult protection by placing an ad in the magazine, seeking a bodyguard. The story gets even more interesting when there was a scene in which several applicants were being interviewed by these kids, from different background. The applicants, one by one, rejected them as these kids unable to afford their price range. In the middle of desperation, came the last applicant of the day; Drillbit Taylor, whom is played by Owen Wilson, a down on his luck soldier of fortune, who lives a homeless life, living in a tent outside a beach.

The story gets even funnier, as these kids held up a high hopes in Drilbit to help them, to train them to become tougher mentally and physically from this school bully. Not knowing the Drillbit true identity, these kids gave all they've got to be able to afford to pay him.
There were so many witty smart funny scenes throughout the film, such as the scene when these kids finally found out that Drillbit is no real bodyguard, or soldier like what he claimed, one of the kids hammered him with question like, "really, if you were really a soldier, which country did you serve, which war", to which Drillbity replied somethin along this line, "yeah, it was the middle east war..it was really hot, there was a camel there.." Owen Wilson, I reckon played his character really well, he always maintain his comical funny facial expression whenever he tried to lie in front of these kids.

The other scene I love, is when Drillbit sneeks into the school, trying to be a substitute teacher, to be able to get close to the kids and seeing Drillbit doing that, and seems to enjoy being a 'fake' teacher as he told to his fellow homeless friends something along this line, 'You know, it's so easy to sneek into school, as long as you've got a cup of coffee in your hand, and blend in the crowd, people thinks you're teacher". The next day, his homeless friend, became a fake substitute teacher too!

Love this film, love owen wilson's character, and love the similarity on how Drillbit and these kids feel like they are powerless sometimes, 'loser' type, and love the ending in which they stepped up and prove to people that they do not deserve to be bullied.

I've heard quite good things about this one -- I'll definitely be checking it out at some point. Not the biggest Wilson fan but may make an exception.

Hi -- I've sent you an email already but sometimes they don't get through to free email accounts. Would you like a domain for this blog? If so send an email to charles -at- orble.com (change the -at- into a @)and he will be able to set one up for you.

You may also need to add the email address admin -at- orblemail.com to your address book in order to receive Orble admin emails in the future.

Thanks,
