24 Season 7's trailer

October 27th 2007 05:27
If you haven't checked it out yet, here's a link to the trailer for 24 Season 7:
Really Long Link

So what do we know so far?
-CTU has disbanded
-The series is set in Washington
-Theres a bunch of new characters
-Jack's still torturing people for information, despite Fox's claims they would cut back
-All those people on the internet who wouldn't shut up about Tony still being alive were actually right, and he's now the bad guy.
-The plot is basically Die Hard 4, but thankfully without Justin Long or Kevin Smith

-Chloe and Buchanan are back
-There's a female president
-There's going to be one of those scenes where Jack has a gun pointed at Tony but...probably can't pull the trigger.

I think its odd to spoil such a major twist (Tony still being alive) in the trailer, really. Since Tony's death was obviously staged in Season 5, it makes it seem as though he was in cahoots with Henderson, but then it doesn't really make sense that he would get caught in the car explosion in the first ep of that season, so....shit, I don't know. No doubt the viewers are going to have to suspend their belief even more than usual, though.

Season does look like it has the right action focus, though. Season 6, while still alright, was heavily bogged down by a whole heap of will-they-won't-theys and the Vice President being a dick, and ended with everything tied up way too neatly on the presidential side of things (pretty much everyone realises the error of their ways amid the national crisis). Hopefully this time we'll get more on the actual crisis and how it affects people, rather than these unrelated love subplots that lead nowhere and aren't fully developed. There was also the fact that Jack had only just gotten out of a Chinese prison, so his actions and relationships couldn't have possibly had the time to develop and mature in the way they seemed to have- aside from being able to kick ass, Jack also knew Buchanan's phone number off by heart and called him a "good friend", despite the fact that they had only really met 3 times.

It's hard to say just how much of a future 24 has, really. I love the series, but it's gotten to the point where it's hard to connect to the characters, because you know, eventually, all of them are going to die, except Jack (and maybe Chloe). In this sense, maybe bringing Tony back isn't so bad an idea (Tony's death was the exact point I started to feel this way, but the Logan plot was ramping up so much at that point I didn't have time to stop and think about it too much). With Keifer off the prison soon, you can't help but wonder if his alcohol abuse is damaging his ability to helm the show, though.

What I really want out of this season is something we haven't really seen since Season 1- a plotline consistent throughout the entire season. I don't want Tony getting killed eight episodes in, I want some build-up to their final showdown. I remember, in Season 2, being disappointed when the bombs were exploded in the desert, and the rest of the season focused on preventing a war. This season, I'd like to see the problems raised in episode 1 concluded in episode 24.

In any case, I have...moderate faith in the people behind 24 to entertain me again, and I'll certainly be watching this season, even if it does turn out a bit crap.
